Este libro detalla con claridad los distintos tipos de alternadores, su constitución, principio de funcionamiento, etc. -desde los más elementales hasta los más complicados fabricados hasta hace unos años-, así como las excitatrices, tanto electromecánicas como electrónicas. Tiene un amplionúmero de esquemas y despieces de alternadores con y sin escobillas, cambios de tensión, compoundaje, devanado auxiliar, reguladores electrónicos de tensión, etc., y expone el funcionamiento de cada uno de ellos. Especial atención se dedica a las averías más frecuentes y las comprobaciones para efectuar con éxito la reparación de dichas anomalías. Otros capítulos a destacar son el de la elección adecuada del alternador y del motor (diésel o gasolina) en función de la carga que tenga que accionar, y el dedicado a los ensayos. El libro va dirigido a los que se dedican a la instalación, mantenimiento y reparación de máquinas eléctricas, así como aquellos que quieran ampliar sus conocimientos: técnicos de industrias, electricistas, profesores y estudiantes de Escuelas técnicas. Manuel Álvarez Pulido ha desarrollado su labor docente durante más de 30 años en institutos de Formación Profesional y de Enseñanza Secundaria, en los campos de la electricidad, la electrónica, las máquinas eléctricas, los automatismos y la robótica. Durante 17 años ha compartido esta labor con la de Director Técnico en una empresa dedicada a la fabricación y reparación de máquinas eléctricas y a la comercialización de equipos electrónicos para la automatización de industrias. Ha impartido numerosos cursos de autómatas programables, de convertidores de frecuencia, de robótica y de máquinas eléctricas a personal de mantenimiento y a profesores. Cuenta en su haber con libros publicados sobre alternadores, controladores lógicos transformadores, y electroimanes. Tiene también la patente de un equipo electrónico de un arrancador integrado para motores eléctricos.
